Our club turbo training is going from strength to strength, with up to 10 people now turning up at our sessions on Mon, Weds and Fri. It’s great to see new faces this year and, as we’re sure anyone who attends will testify, it’s a fantastic way to train for people of all abilities and to meet other club members.
Due to this increased interest, the Club has decided to invest in 4 additional new turbo trainers and, from the New Year, turbo will cost €3/session if you use a club trainer and remain at €2/session if you use your own. Previous policy was that club trainers were there to give members a chance to try out turbo for a few sessions, before buying their own if they wished to continue. With the purchase of these new trainers, we are now giving members the option of not having to buy their own, in return for a slightly higher fee.
If however, you are interested in buying, you can avail of a special reduced price being offered to us by Speedy Spokes for the Cycleops Magneto – €195 (reduced from €225 RRP). Product details below:
If you’re interested, please email info@kenmaretri.com ASAP.

Goal Mile – Christmas Day, 11am
As always, we are encouraging all members to come along and support this great event, which helps to support all the work being done by Goal around the world. It takes place at Faungorth Activity Centre from 10am to 12 noon on 25th December, but we’re asking KTC members to come along at 11am if possible, so that we can enjoy the run together. If you have club gear, please wear it and we’ll all look lovely!
St. Stephen’s Day Cycle – 26th December, time TBC
What better way to work off all that turkey and Christmas pud than by going out for a nice spin the day after? Last year we headed to Sneem and stopped off for well-earned coffee and cake. Everyone had so much fun, we’ve decided to repeat the exercise this year! Once again, it’ll be a ‘not-too-early’ start, time TBC closer to the date. As always, we’ll post details on the Facebook page or you can drop an email to our Training Officer Teresa at: theresa_o_s@yahoo.co.uk
Christmas Cross-Country Run – 30th December, 10am
The brains behind this operation, Robert Whyte, is giving it the official title, “10 Miles of Hell”, and anyone who took part in last year’s event will understand why! This is not one for the faint-hearted: a tough trail run along the Old Killarney Road (Kerry Way), finishing back in town, with showers and refreshments for the survivors – sorry, finishers! There will be a bus to the start, departing from Centra at 10am on Sun 30th Dec, with a small fee (numbers dependent) to cover the cost. Joking aside, due to the challenging nature of the event, we’ll have to insist that only full KTC members, or other TI members, can participate for insurance purposes. Bring your TI membership card (2012 or 2013) on the day, just so we’re all covered. If you’re interested, please let Robert know ASAP on robertwhytex@gmail.com so that he can make arrangements.
New Year’s Day Swim – 1st January 2013
Had enough yet? OK, then how would you like to jump off Kilmacillogue Pier into the freezing Atlantic on New Year’s Day? Ah yes, that’s the spirit, we thought you might. It is rumoured that a wetsuit ban may be enforced, but that’s nothing that a few of Helen’s hot toddies afterwards won’t fix! Time TBC, but if you’re interested, please contact Mike at mikeymerrigan@gmail.com
Some adjustments have been made to the Training Schedule.
At the request of members, Monday night’s Turbo session has moved from 7pm to 7.30pm. There will also be an additional Turbo session on Wednesday mornings at 6.45am, with effect from 14 Nov. It’s great to see new members at Turbo recently; it’s great winter training and a great way to meet fellow members. There are several club turbo trainers available, so for starters just bring your bike (plus a towel and water!). Non-members are more than welcome to attend a session or two to see what it’s all about, before (hopefully!) joining.
Wednesday evening’s swim session has moved back from 8pm to 7pm (with effect from 14 Nov) to accommodate the earlier closing time of the Kenmare Bay pool.
