Following consultation with members, it has been decided that the times of several evening Training Sessions will be changed:
Turbo Training, Mondays: new start time 7pm (formerly 6.30pm)
Turbo Training, Fridays: new start time 7pm (formerly 6.30pm)
Night Running at Faungorth, Wednesdays: new start time 7pm (formerly 6.30pm)
In addition, the 8am Sunday morning Swim Session at The Bay Pool will move to 8am Saturdays, with immediate effect.
Many thanks for all the feedback regarding these issues; we hope it makes training more accessible for all members.
Registration for the 2012 Valentia Island Sprint Triathlon will open at 8am this Sunday, 29th January. The event itself will take place on 12th May. As always, demand for individual entry places will be high. The total number of places will be limited to 300, which will be released in three registration tranches with 100 places on offer in each tranche. The other two tranches will take place at 8am on Sun 26th Feb and Sun 25th March.
This event is very popular with Kenmare Tri Club members, so we suggest you have your finger on the button at 8am this Sunday, just to be sure! Last year, each 100 places went in around 20 minutes. If you haven’t renewed your TI membership yet, then make sure to do so in advance of Sun morning, as this will only take up extra time. (It’s also a good time to renew your Club membership, if you haven’t already done so!)

There will be a Bike Cleaning and Repair Session with John McElligott and Paul Tanner on Fri 20th Jan from 7.30 to 8.30pm (after Turbo Training). Location: Kilmurray Business Park. All members welcome.
The 2012 Winter/Spring Training schedule has been finalised and is now available to view on:

In addition to the existing activities, we’re introducing some great new ones. There will now be Club Swimming Sessions at the Kemare Bay Pool twice a week and, even if you’re not a pool member, you can still participate for a small per session fee. We’re always aware that swimming is the greatest obstacle to most people doing their first Triathlon and these sessions are very much aimed at swimmers of ALL ABILITIES. We are also running Weds night runs on the track at Faungorth Activity Centre. It’s a great level, off-road surface to run on and, with a 1km circuit, you can choose your distance and even build it up as the weeks go by. Remember to bring a head torch! Turbo training has become very popular and continues on Mon and Fri evenings at 6.30pm. There’s a road cycle most Sunday mornings; check our Facebook page for details, www.facebook.com/KenmareTriClub.
This 10km race will start and end in the centre of the town and take in some of Kenmare’s finest scenery as well as three of its iconic bridges. See route map below.
There is an entry fee of €15. Teams of 2 and 4 are welcome. Race headquarters will be in the Community Centre, Shelburne Street, Kenmare. See map below.
In addition there will be a 1 mile race for under 18s which also starts and ends in the town. Entry fee for this is €5 with proceeds going to the Ronald McDonald House at Crumlin Hospital in Dublin which provides a home-from-home for families with seriously ill children. Visitwww.rmhc.ie for more details.
Great prizes for all categories in 10km race and medals for all juvenile finishers.
• Water stations along the way
• Spot prize raffle
• Refreshments after the race
• Race is AAI approved.
For anybody that wants to start 2012 with a splash, the New Year’s Day Swim will take place at Kilmakilloge at 1pm. Helen has assured us there will be hot toddies on the go afterwards! See you there and leave your wet suits at home. All welcome…
Turbo training has now finished for the Christmas Holidays. Sessions resume on Fri 6 Jan and every Mon and Fri thereafter at 6.30pm in Kilmurray Business Park. The sessions are great fun and very useful so if you haven’t partaken yet, it’d be great to see you in 2012. The perfect New Year’s Resolution!
