Kerry Recreation & Sports Partnership (KRSP) Cathaoirleach Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh will launch the event on Saturday January 14th at 2pm, Muckross House, Killarney National Park and he will by joined by former Kerry Operation Transformation Leader Emily Pigott.  This will be followed by a choice of 4.5 or 9k walk!!!

The short walk will be set at a relaxed pace so it’s good for beginners whilst the 9k walk will offer a more moderate pace whilst incorporating a slight challenge to Torc Falls viewing point.  Walk registration takes place from 1:15pm onwards.  This should be a good day out for all…so why not come along with family and friends and join in on the fun!!

Lough Cutra Castle Triathlon – Sunday 3 June 2012
Filed Under (Other Events) by tom
Happy New Year and apologies for the unsolicited approach but we thought our inaugural triathlon at Lough Cutra Castle, near Gort in County Clare may be of some interest for your club members.  Castle Triathlon Series is a pan-European race series designed to appeal to all standards of triathlete from elite to newcomer.  We put on children’s races, sprint, mid-distance and Olympic distance races all on the same day and in a unique family friendly festival atmosphere (please see pdf below for more detail).  Our race at Hever Castle in Kent is now the 3rd biggest in the UK.  We are currently going through the process of ensuring Lough Cutra is a Triathlon Ireland sanctioned event.
Based on our French experience we expect half the field of competitors to come to Ireland from the UK and because of this you will see from the website that we have a high entry fee in relation to the norm in the Irish market place.   To offset this we would like to extend a 25% discount offer to all of your club members.  If you were able to circulate this offer to the club we would be very grateful.  To take up the discount please just email Tosh Reilly in our office and she will forward a unique code to be used online when entering using the website.
If you have any further questions about our events and in particular what we are trying to achieve at Lough Cutra then please don’t hesitate to call.

Subject: Run 4 Mark in the Dark

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am emailing to inform you of an upcoming run in Cork on Wednesday 16th November at 7.30pm to raise funds for the Mark Pollock Trust. I hope that the members of your Triathlon Club will be interested in participating. Below is a message from Piers White, Head of Fundraising.

Kind regards,

Karen Meehan

_______________________________________________________________________________

Piers White is my name and I would like to bring to your attention an upcoming event that I think would be a great event for all athletes to get involved in.

Mark Pollock is a truly inspiring individual. Having lost his sight at the age of 22 Mark has never let that hold him back. He took hold of his life and never looked back competing in the world’s harshest environments across desert, mountain, ocean and polar regions including 6 marathons in 7 days in the Gobi Desert, a race to the South Pole, and the Round Ireland yacht race; all this despite being completely blind. He was also an international oarsman. He made his living as a motivational speaker around the globe and inspired many people to think about how to face challenges and make decisions.

Having overcome his blindness tragedy struck again on the 2nd July 2010 when Mark fell from a second story window and suffered a catastrophic spinal injury which has left Mark paralysed from the waist down.  The following clip is of an interview with Mark conducted by the BBC six months after Mark's accident. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-12314687 The past year has been incredibly difficult for Mark and while he has dealt with every emotion he is determined not to rest on his laurels. You can check out Mark's blog at www.markpollock.com/blog/blog.asp   He has done a lot of research to find out what he could do and
was in hospital for 15 months. He has just been released and is now following a programme of aggressive physical therapy in an attempt to regain any feeling or movement that he can.

To raise funds for his rehab programme which will require frequent visits to America and a facility called Project Walk, friends of his  have set up  'Mark Pollock Trust' and are organising the fundraising 5km/10km run -
www.run4mark.com  - that will take place
simultaneously in Dublin, Belfast, Cork and Galway on Wed 16th Nov @ 19:30 as per the attached flyer. And we would really like to get you involved in the Cork run.....

We would really like as many runners/athletes as possible to join us and take part in the event and spread the word through their networks. We have flyers, sponsorship cards and posters etc.. The cost of the event is €25 per person for this very wothwhile cause.

Thanking you.
