Tim Barry the Irish Cycling Team coach is back down with us on Sun March 28th at 11.30pm, meeting at Brooklane hotel.
This course will consist of a half hour classroom session followed by a 40km cycle (approx 2.5hrs) .
The cycle will entail technique drills and stops for talks. Finish with a Q&A in the classroom. All levels welcome.
Please leave comment here or email info@kenmaretri to express an interest.
The first club cycle of 2010 is to be a nice gentle spin to Star Sailing and back (14km total).
Happening next Sunday 28th February this will be a great chance for new members to meet up. We will depart from The Square at 11:30 and stop at Star Sailing for a coffee and a chat.
For those of you who would like to get off to a more challenging start for the year, Paul and Ger intend to continue on and do a round trip to the top of the Healy Pass and back (after coffee!).
As this is a club event all participants will be required to wear helmets and be covered by Triathlon Ireland Insurance (Full membership of TI is €50 for the year or Associate Membership is €5, both memberships provide insurance. See http://www.triathlonireland.com under the Membership menu).
Training session for Valentia 2010 will be on Sat April 17th.
This will entail doing the full course (including the swim ) at slower than race pace. An overnight looks on the cards. Please put this date in your calendar with more details to follow.
Kenmare Triathlon Club- Charimans Update
—————————————————————–
I would just like to thank all the club members who helped organise, set-up and supported our information night last week.
The night was a great success with very positive feedback from all who were present. Thanks are also due to Lindsey from the Bay Health club and Catriona from Feet First sports shop in Killarney.
Dermot from the Brooklane Hotel is also due a special thankyou for allowing the club to use the big screen conference room for the clubs Turbo Training sessions on Mon and Fri evenings. If any club member would like to avail of the turbo trainer machines outside these hours please feel free to contact the club training officer Robert on 0862644917.
Apart from the routine club training that is ongoing there will be some special training sessions posted on the web site over the next week or so. Such as a club subsidised run training session with a proffesional coach and top triathelete. Also the club will be organising a weekend away training weekend to Valentia sometime in mid-late April. This weekend is great fun with the main focus on getting to know the course for the event held there on may 22nd.
Memberships have been flowing in much quicker this year due to the info night and incentives such as the € 100 worth of vouchers for a draw between all memberships in before Feb 4th. SO 3 DAYS LEFT FOLKS.
I now have all the bits together for the welcome pack for new members. I will get around to all new members with this over the next few weeks.
I am organising a club evening where we can get together socially and have the draw for the vouchers. Depending on numbers I am thinking of Tapas in Salvados, Kenmare on the evening of tue 9th.
I need people to email me on kenmarebaydiving@gmail.com or ring me on 087-6993793 to let me know if they are planning to go as if the numbers get too large we may have to look at a different venue.
I hope you all enjoy the traithlon season.
Paul Tanner
Chairman

Turbo training sessions are scheduled for Mon and Fri at 5:30 (note move from previous time of 6pm) for 1 hour upstairs in the Brooklane Hotel. Bring your own Turbo if you have one or contact Robert for use of the clubs (As we only have 2 we will try to be as fair as possible with members and try and schedule a rota system if needed).

Bertie Ahern Sets Them Off!
Now in its third year this 10-kilometre charity run or walk in the surroundings of Kenmare town is back. The Jack And Jill Run up the Hill has grown in popularity since the challenging and scenic course was first used in 2008.Last year Bertie Ahern TD waved off over 1000 people from the start line- to the hills. €29,000 was raised for a deserving cause.
