Swim Coaching Sessions with Eilís Burns, 27th & 28th Jan
Filed Under (news) by tom
Eilís Burns is a highly sought-after open water Swimming Coach. She is an Irish Masters Swim record holder, the coach of Cork Masters, winner of the Seven Hogs 5k open water event in 2010, and played six years on the Irish National Water Polo team.

We’re delighted to announce that Eilis is returning to do some more coaching sessions for Kenmare Tri Club members.

We’d like to stress that these sessions are genuinely aimed at swimmers of all levels. Anyone who has attended Eilís’ sessions in the past will agree on just how helpful she is, regardless of their swimming ability. As swimming is often the discipline that deters would-be triathletes, we would strongly recommend that you come along.

Apologies for the short notice, but Eilís has limited availability and at least coaching sessions in January will give everyone plenty of time to work on her tips before the season starts!

Schedule:
Friday Evening 27th January, 6.30-9pm
Saturday Morning 28th January 7-9am

Venue:  Kenmare Bay Health Club Pool

Friday Evening 27 January
6.30-7.00pm will a 30 minute talk out of the water at the end of the pool (quietest area – bring a towel to keep warm).
7-9pm will be in the water.
Saturday Morning 28 January
7-9am in the water.

Eilis will work with both advanced and beginners together. It’s far more benfitial to attend both sessions but, if that’s not possible, you can attend one or the other.

Cost:
€10 for one session (1 day)

€15 for both sessions (2 days)

€3 extra for Kenmare Bay Club members without Pool membership.
€4 extra for Kenmare Bay Club non-members.

All  members are invited to Salvados Restaurant after the Friday session for something to eat and a catch up with with other club members.

Please get back to us ASAP at info@kenmaretri.com and let us know if you’re interested in:

  • Both Sessions
  • One Session (please specify Fri or Sat)
  • Fri night Dinner

WANTED: CLUB MEMBERS TO ATTEND TECHNICAL OFFICER TRAINING COURSE WITH TRIATHLON IRELAND
Filed Under (news) by tom
All triathlons sanctioned byTriathlon Ireland (TI) must have two Technical Officers (TOs) to supervise the running of the event. These TOs are generally drawn from the membership of TI. It’s a condition of our Little Bo Peep Triathlon being sanctioned by TI that Kenmare Tri Club provides at least two of these TOs to officiate at other events.
Every year, TI runs a Technical Officer Training Course, held in various locations between February and April. It would be great if we could get as many of our members as possible to attend this Course. Not only will it help us meet our obligation to TI with regard to the Bo Peep, it will provide the club with valuable expertise, and there are perks for those who take part, including mileage and expenses when officiating at events, plus priority entry to in-demand events in 2013. The Course itself is a free to attend and runs from 11am to 4.30pm. There is also a two-hour Refresher Course for members who have previously attended a TO Course.
More information on these Courses can be found here. (There’s one in Killarney on Sat 14th April, which may be of particular interest to Kenmare Tri Club members. Robert Whyte and Gerry McCarthy are attending the Cork Course on Sat 4th Feb.)

2012 Winter/Spring Training Schedule

The 2012 Winter/Spring Training schedule has been finalised and is now available to view on:

http://www.kenmaretri.com/training

In addition to the existing activities, we’re introducing some great new ones. There will now be Club Swimming Sessions at the Kemare Bay Pool twice a week and, even if you’re not a pool member, you can still participate for a small per session fee. We’re always aware that swimming is the greatest obstacle to most people doing their first Triathlon and these sessions are very much aimed at swimmers of ALL ABILITIES. We are also running Weds night runs on the track at Faungorth Activity Centre. It’s a great level, off-road surface to run on and, with a 1km circuit, you can choose your distance and even build it up as the weeks go by. Remember to bring a head torch! Turbo training has become very popular and continues on Mon and Fri evenings at 6.30pm. There’s a road cycle most Sunday mornings; check our Facebook page for details, www.facebook.com/KenmareTriClub.
