Turbo training has now finished for the Christmas Holidays. Sessions resume on Fri 6 Jan and every Mon and Fri thereafter at 6.30pm in Kilmurray Business Park. The sessions are great fun and very useful so if you haven’t partaken yet, it’d be great to see you in 2012. The perfect New Year’s Resolution!
Kenmare Tri Club membership for 2012 is now open. Existing or new members can join via the Triathlon Ireland website:
https://www.triathlonireland-newserver.com/join-a-club.html
Membership costs €40 and is on a per calendar year basis. In order to join, you must be a member of Triathlon Ireland. TI associate membership costs €18 and full membership costs €53. Both are available to purchase on the TI website.
TI membership provides members with third party insurance cover for all organised club training activities. In addition, full TI membership provides insurance for all TI-sanctioned races without having to purchase a one-day race licence. One-day licences cost €15, so if you’re planning to participate in 3 races or more during 2012, it makes good financial sense to take out full membership.
Please note that the club is no longer accepting direct membership applications.
Christmas is nearly upon us and we’ve lined up a few activities to keep members on their toes over the festive season…
GOAL MILE – CHRISTMAS DAY
As always, the Goal Mile will be run on Christmas Day at Faungorth Activity Centre. It’s a fantastic event and there’s always a Kenmare Tri Club contingent taking part. This year we thought it might be a good idea if all club members who are participating could turn up at the same time – 11 a.m. - wearing club gear if possible. It would create a nice buzz and be good for the club profile as well. See you all there!
NEW YEAR’S EVE RUN
On New Year’s Eve, we’re planning two trail runs on the Old Road from Killarney to Kenmare (Kerry Way).
1. 13 mile roure from Torc Car park, starting at 10am sharp from the car park.
2. 6.5 mile route from Derrycunihy Church (Half Way Church), starting at 10am sharp from the church.
Everyone should hopefully arrive in Kenmare at the same time for some well deserved “refreshments”. The route is expected to be wet, slippy, muddy and rocky! Contact Robert Whyte or email info@kenmaretri.com asap if interested as we will need to arrange lifts to the starting points for all runners.
NEW YEAR’S DAY SWIM
For all you hardy souls out there, a swim/quick dip is planned for Kilmackillogue Harbour on New Year’s Day, followed by well-earned hot toddies in the pub. Time TBC, please let us know if you’re interested in taking part.
The Kenmare Tri AGM was held last night and a new (and exciting!) committee was elected. Great to see some new faces coming up to inject some new ideas into the club. A large thanks to everyone who attended on a very wet, dank Sunday evening.
The new committee is:
Chairman – Gerry McCarthy
Secretary – Tom Johnson
Treasurer – Lisa Staplebroek
Training – Suzanne Teahan
Children’s Officer – Margaret McCarthy
PRO – Mike Merrigan
Roving Role 1 – Theresa O’Sullivan
Roving Role 2 – Paul Tanner
Little Bo Peep Role – Robert Whyte
Finally a huge thanks to the outgoing committee for all their work and efforts throughout the year.
Sunday cycle (forecast looks surprisingly good).
10.30am
Kenmare – Morleys Bridge – Top of Coom – Ballingeary – Kealkill – Borlin Valley – Kilgarvan – Kenmare
95km
I will probably stop for a coffee in Ballylickey.
