2012 National Middle Distance Championships
Posted on 02-02-2012
Filed Under (Other Events) by tom

Hi all

We’re pleased to announce that entries for the 2012 National Middle Distance Championships will open tomorrow – Wednesday 1st February. Our Half Ireman event in Groomsport on Sunday 19th August has the pleasure of hosting this year’s race which will also be part of the Triathlon Ireland National Series sponsored by Vodafone. Alongside the middle distance event, we’ll once again be hosting the long distance 226 Challenge. An open water swim and a children’s event are also planned for the weekend.

We have revamped our website for 2012 and all details are avilable at www.ireman.org .

Recognising that participation in our sport can be expensive, we are once again holding our entry prices at £70.30. In fact, entry to the 226 Challenge has decreased to £100.00. As a not for profit club race, all funds are recyled back into the event especially the competitors goodie bags.

As an incentive for clubmates to compete together, any club with 8 or more competitors will be provided with specially commissioned T-shirts for all those racing. A 226 Challenge athlete will count as 2 of the 8 required. In order for this to be monitored, just ensure that your members add their club name when entering.

All at Triangle Triathlon Club look forward to welcoming you to the shores of North Down for another great day’s racing. We’d be obliged if you could forward this mail to your members.

Yours in sport,

The Ireman Race Crew

Rosses Point Duathlon, Saturday, 10th March
Posted on 26-01-2012
Filed Under (Other Events) by tom

Sligo Triathlon Club 2012 open race season starts  with the Rosses Point Duathlon on Saturday, 10th March at 12pm. This race will be great performance tester for those of you preparing for the upcoming season, and to see if the winter training has paid off. The course will be based on a similar course to Rosses Point Sprint Triathlon, so it is definitely recommended for those of you giving that a go this year. This event is open to all clubs and is sanctioned by Triathlon Ireland so please spread the word as we would like to make it a regular feature on the TI calender.

Race Route:

The race will start with a 5km run following a circular route from the transition at the beach car park around Rosses Point village. Very similar to the Rosses Point sprint course. Competitors will then return to transition for the cycle leg. The cycle route leaves transition towards Sligo taking a left at Cregg. Then taking the right along the lower Rosses Point road. Followed by another right which will take competitors towards Sligo again. A sharp descent will lead back onto the main Rosses Point road where, taking another right, the route travels straight back to transition. The same route as the sprint race minus the trip to Cartron. The final 2.5km run will be an out and back of the 2nd beach.

Race Details:

Competitors can register for the race on the Triathlon Ireland web site  www.triathlonireland.com Entry will cost €20. As usual, a one day licence (€10 duathlon cost) or full membership (€50) of triathlon Ireland will be required to compete. The race is open on TI and we have limited entrys to 150 (t shirst ordered)

On the day, sign on will take place in the Yacht Club from 9am-11am. Race briefing will take place at 11.30am. Race start 12.00pm. Showers & refreshments will be available in the Yacht Club after the event. Entry will include a customary technical t-shirt. The club will also be holding a social on the saturday evening in our club sponsors Mc Hughs bar. All welcome to join us.

Kilkenny Triathlon Club is delighted to announce the launch of its inaugural club race, ‘The KTC Duathlon 2012’ taking place in the scenic surrounds of Mount Juliet, Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny on Saturday March 10th. Over 150 athletes are expected to race on the day, ranging from experienced racers to those completely new to the sport. It is also hoped that some of Ireland’s top triathletes will make the trip to take part in the event.

“We are delighted to invite the Kilkenny Triathlon Club to Mount Juliet for this inaugural event. We are sure it will prove to be a very successful and exciting day for all involved”, said William Kirby, General Manager, Mount Juliet.

The race itself will consist of a 3km run within the picturesque grounds of Mount Juliet, a 19km cycle through the surrounding countryside and then back into Mount Juliet for the final 3km run. For those new to the multi-disciplinary world of triathlon, a duathlon offers a fantastic way to dip your toe, so whether you are an experienced triathlete looking for a personal best or you’re taking on your very first challenge, this event will prove the perfect setting for it.

“Duathlons and Triathlons are experiencing huge growth in Ireland, seen no more clearly than with the success of the Triathlon in Kilkenny City last summer, and with such a stunning backdrop on offer at Mount Juliet we aim to put Kilkenny right on the map for Duathlons as well”, said Dara Fahy, Duathlon Race Director, adding that, “Over 150 athletes will take part this March in our event and we hope to grow it even bigger over the coming years to make it one of Ireland’s major Duathlon races.”

Online entry to the event opens Wednesday, 1st February. To find out more about the event and to enter the race visit the club website http://kilkennytriathlonclub.com/training-and-events/ktc-duathlon or email duathlon@kilkennytriathlonclub.com. VALENTIA TRIATHLON, REGISTRATION OPENS THIS SUN, 29TH JAN
Posted on 26-01-2012
Filed Under (news, Other Events) by tom

Registration for the 2012 Valentia Island Sprint Triathlon will open at 8am this Sunday, 29th January. The event itself will take place on 12th May. As always, demand for individual entry places will be high. The total number of places will be limited to 300, which will be released in three registration tranches with 100 places on offer in each tranche. The other two tranches will take place at 8am on Sun 26th Feb and Sun 25th March.

This event is very popular with Kenmare Tri Club members, so we suggest you have your finger on the button at 8am this Sunday, just to be sure! Last year, each 100 places went in around 20 minutes. If you haven’t renewed your TI membership yet, then make sure to do so in advance of Sun morning, as this will only take up extra time. (It’s also a good time to renew your Club membership, if you haven’t already done so!)
